Descendants of Martin Krege

Gottlieb Krege & John Krege (twins) came to US 8/5/1869 (NY). (father) Martin Krege came to the US on 6/11/1872 with his son John from Stowen near Schneidemühl/Pila province Posen, Prussia[now Pila/Poznan,Poland]. Wilhelm Friedrich Krage with other brothers and sisters came to US 7/1890
For more info on Posen/Poznan, go to the web page www.posen-l.com. The family in Prussia spelled it Krege.
According to the Indiana Krege branch, immigration wouldn't allow that many family to immigrate under 1 name, so some changed the name to Krage to immigrate into the US.
When I visited Otto Krege on a farm in Kreis Heilbronn, Germany in 1973, he confirmed the original was Krege.
I have just (12/20/2002) contacted a researcher for Posen Krage ancestry, who has a webpage at www.posen-l.com/RschrDsply.php?Researcher=326
My Posen Research Page is www.posen-l.com/RschrDsply.php?Researcher=731 In it, I state: "I'm searching for info on the Kräge/Kraege/Krage/Krege family from Posen. The name was originally Kräge, but was transliterated as Kraege, and changed by most to Krege (and some to Krage).
My grandfather (Wilhelm Friedrich Krage) and great-uncles/aunts, as well as their father, my great-grandfather Augustus Julius Krege (1838-1885) [and his wife Henrietta Mueller (1839-12/27/1923)] were all born in Stöwen [now Stobno] (6 kilometers SW of Schneidemühl [now Pila]), Kreis Kolmar [now Chodziez], Province Posen[Poznan], Prussia[now Poland]. [We had land in a sector of Stöwen called "Die RussenHausen"]
Wilhelm Krage b. 1872, 1890 to US (GrandMeadow, MN), 1892 to Janesville,MN (tailor to 1899), 1920 to columbia, SD (farmed, then school custodian).
All but the great-grandfather came to the US, some to Indiana, some to Columbia,South Dakota (near Aberdeen). The family varied in adapting their name: many changed it to Krage, some kept it as Krege.
All of the family has always been Lutheran.

[Hypothesis: The family name may have originally been Kräge, which transliterates as Kraege, but] I believe the name Kräge could originally have been Swedish). It means "crow" in Swedish and old German. Please note that Posen is relatively close to the North Sea - Sweden.
I find that the name Kräge is common in Swedish and in older German, where it means "crow".
(The Swedes occupied the area around Posen for a while, so the name could be Swedish.)
None of the family history appears to corroborate this hypothesis, but perhaps we haven't gone back far enought yet.
The Schliebe family also came to America with my family from Schneidemühl/Stöwen, Kreis Kolmar, Province Posen, Prussia. They intermarried both in Posen and in America.
